The Stanley Barracks boasts over 6 acres of gorgeous outdoor event space to host some of the most exciting events in the city.
Once site of the New Fort York, the current grounds of Exhibition Place and home to Hotel X Toronto are steeped in history. Considered Toronto’s ‘last fort,’ the renamed Stanley Barracks played a pivotal military role in the Rebellion of 1837 and World War I, with many buildings on the complex demolished soon thereafter.
Since then, with the City of Toronto maintaining ownership of the land and as the historic site of the Canadian National Exhibition, the area known as Exhibition Place has become a coveted community resource and tourist destination.
With Hotel X Toronto now standing on this historic ground, many of the ruins of the Stanley Barracks have been restored to reflect their impressive history in Toronto, with the greater Stanley Square and Gardens revitalized to serve the community as a beautiful outdoor space and recreational area.
As the only hotel in Exhibition Place, Hotel X Toronto pays homage to its historic location with The New Fort Hall, a comprehensive archeological exhibit spanning the site’s history back to the 1840s, as well as an innovate gastropub and beer garden within the confines of the old Stanley Barracks, moving this momentous landmark into modernity.
